Sandwich panels are three-layer structures from which the walls and roof of a house are assembled. During installation, they are fixed to the frame and, if necessary, sheathed with facing and roofing materials.
Each sandwich panel consists of the following elements:
- external cladding;
- insulation;
- internal lining.
Let’s look at each of them in more detail. Let’s do this using the Metal Profile sandwich panels as an example.
External cladding
This is a steel sheet with zinc and polymer coating. They protect the product from the negative influence of the environment – UV radiation, moisture, mechanical influences.
For wall sandwich panels, the outer cladding can be smooth or profiled – with wavy, ribbed and trapezoidal relief. The surface of roofing sandwich panels consists of high trapezoids. A roof made of this material has good load-bearing capacity and can withstand heavy snow loads.
Insulation
The Metal Profile assortment includes sandwich panels with two types of insulation:
- Mineral wool.
- Foamed polyisocyanurate (PIR).
Mineral wool is a fibrous material made from rocks, in particular basalt. This material is also called stone wool.
As a filler for sandwich panels, lamellas (rectangular bars) are used, which are cut from mineral wool slabs. To glue the lamellas into the panel, use two-component polyurethane adhesive. It provides a strong connection between the cladding and the insulation.
Polyisocyanurate foam (PIR) is a foamed polymer material that is a network of closed cells filled with pentane, a gas with low thermal conductivity. This gas is absolutely safe for people and animals.
During the manufacturing process, polyisocyanurate foam is fed between two claddings, expands and completely fills the space between them. After this, polymerization of the core occurs under pressure. All this ensures high strength and reliability of sandwich panels.
Internal lining
The internal cladding is identical to the external one: it is also a galvanized steel sheet with a polymer coating. Like the front side, the “wrong side” of sandwich panels can be smooth or embossed.
